We have already begun implementing measures to ensure that we respond to the COVID 19 epidemic and in line with the measures as announced by President Ramaphosa yesterday.
Media Statement: Minister Nzimande's statement following the meeting with the University of Zululand management and student formations held at Protea Fire and Ice hotel at Mhlanga Ridge in Durban.
I have decided to call this media briefing following my meeting with the management and students’ formations of the University of Zululand.
The reason I met with student political formation is that currently, the university has no Student Representative Council, which is a matter I will address later in this statement.
The meeting today follows the recent protest at the University of Zululand, which resulted in the unfortunate burning of the university property and private property.

Address by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology,Dr BE Nzimande, on the occasion of the Black Business Council ("BBC")
The President in his SONA address reminded us that “Our country is facing a stark reality. Our economy has not grown at any meaningful rate for over a decade. Even as jobs are being created, the rate of unemployment is deepening”.
Your summit also takes place just as we have received the bad news that our economy has entered a recession, thus compounding the difficulties we face in tackling the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment. This is a challenge to all of us that there is something we are not getting right.
